The engineering, survey work and planning of the $1 billion Shadow Mountain development was undertaken by a Western Canadian geomatics and engineering company. Winding through 550 single-family properties as well as a 19-hole championship golf course, practice academy and clubhouse, it will offer homes for about 3,000 residents. The lots range from strategically-located multi-family sites, 6,000 to 11,000 square foot residential lots and acreage lots with parcels ranging from half-acre to one acre.
The development's St. Mary Neighbourhood Plan was prepared in support of the facilitated completion and application of the development applications. As well, the master plan was prepared to assist development of the neighbourhood's adjacent lands.
To help celebrate the 150th anniversary of British Columbia's founding as a crown colony, the province launched its BC 'Spirit Square' capital funding program to help communities create or improve an area where citizens can gather for celebrations and commemorations. A Western Canadian geomatics and engineering company was retained by the City of Cranbrook to facilitate a design to locate a proposed Spirit Square and produce a concept for submission to the Province for funding. This work was dovetailed with another project that included the replacement of infrastructure and rehabilitation of roads in the same area. Construction commenced in the summer of 2008.
